Cleaning out my fridge and cupboards: Transition to Raw Vegan Diet

June 1st, 2009 1 comment

Some people have made the switch to a 100% raw vegan diet overnight. I decided to make it a gradual transition, since I was already vegetarian (in fact, near vegan) for the last 8 years. I was always ashamed and embarrassed to admit that because people always assume that vegetarians are slim. Let me tell you, there are plenty of overweight vegetarians and vegans out there!

In the weeks leading up to my decision to go raw, I threw out any pure junk food in the trash, becuase that’s where it belonged. What was left really wasn’t that bad as far the general public would be concerend, but I decided to clean out my refrigerator and kitchen cupboards. In the process, I removed any foods that were not raw or that required cooking and gave them to friends, family or the food bank.

To the non-raw foodist, it may seem a bit drastic to get rid of some seemingly healthy foods, but it’s all in the name of going 100% raw! Take a look at how it went in these two videos:

My Story, My Mentors and My Weight Loss Journey

I have struggled with being overweight most of my life. Then I got obese, then morbidly obese, tipping the scales at 371 pounds (168 kilograms / 26.5 stone). But then I found two guys online who helped me put together the pieces of the puzzle: Adam Waters (RTP: Real Time Physique) for the fitness and accountability aspect, then shortly afterward, Philip McCluskey (Loving Raw) who introduced me to the wonderful world of the Raw Food Lifestyle.

My “About” page has full details on the events that lead up to the breaking point. The video below is my first time going public with my story:
